Continuous Integration is a software development approach that uses “build automation” to automatically build and test software. With Continuous Integration, there is always an up-to-date version of the software available to run quality assurance tests and conduct sample deployments, and any problems accidentally introduced by developers can be seen quickly. The automation involved also provides a convenient spot to implement quality assurance tools like automated unit testing, code coverage testing, static code analysis, style checking, and so on. This webinar will discuss some common tools and plugins for Apache Maven that are useful for Continuous Integration, and present a useful pattern for establishing a Continuous Integration server combined with a Maven Repository Manager. The webinar will appeal to all developers working with Java technologies, and in particular to those using Apache Maven or the Jenkins Continuous Integration server.

Although Apache Maven has been around for several years now, some of us have been reluctant to adopt it for our development projects. We have many excuses – It's not flexible. We can't control what it downloads. It's hard to use. The metadata is difficult to understand. We can't layout our project the way we want. And the list goes on. In reality, many of our assumptions are not true. Join us for this webinar where we'll try to convince Late Adopters to re-examine their resistance to Apache Maven.

Are manufactured homes eligible for residential mortgages? What is the maximum allowable Loan To Value (LTV) ratio for single-family homes used as principal residences? how long, after a loss or damage has occurred, can an insured submit a claim? are chiropractic fees covered by my policy? who is eligible for income support for single parent families? who is eligible for the caregiver tax credit? Business rules, specific to mortgage banking, insurance, social welfare programs, and the tax code, provide the answers to these questions. Do you know them? are they being applied systematically? do they provide you with the intended competitive advantage-- where appropriate? are they being enforced by your information system? can you modify them quickly enough to respond to market changes in a timely fashion? The business rules approach addresses these challenges by focusing on the explicit capture, management, and execution of the business rules that underlie your business processes, separate from the other requirements of your information system. It is a key ingredient of decision management, which includes predictive analytics and business event processing which, together, combine to predict, formalize, enforce, and optimize business decisions. Agile Business Rule Development provides an incremental, iterative, and test-driven implementation of the business rules approach. This webinar will go over, 1) the basic tenets of decision management, in general, and the business rules approach, in particular, 2) some key business use cases, 3) principles of Agile Business Rule Development (ABRD), and 4) some of the technology landscape.

One of the biggest challenges in SOA Adoption is governance. According to IBM: "Governance is the means of establishing and enforcing how a group agrees to work together. Specifically, there are two aspects to governance:

  • Establishing chains of responsibility, authority, and communication to empower people by determining who has the rights to make what decisions.
  • Establishing measurement, policy, and control mechanisms to enable people to carry out their roles and responsibilities"
  • In this webinar, we will explore the topic of SOA governance in general and then look at how WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) helps enable and support SOA governance solutions.

Description: Last summer, IBM released WebSphere Application Server 8.5. Since this was just one year after the release of WebSphere 8.0 the conventional wisdom might be "there must not be that many new features". Quite to the contrary, WebSphere 8.5 has quite a few new features designed for advanced management of WebSphere environments. These are termed "intelligent management" by IBM because they allow WebSphere to do things like automatically take actions like restarting a server if certain conditions are observed, support the concurrent deployment of multiple application versions and route user requests based on which application version they are using, expand the size of clusters and prioritize requests for high priority applications if SLA metrics are not being met. Many of these features are on the "wish list" of WebSphere shops so attend this webinar and learn about how to take advantage of this built-in functionality.

Description: IBM is a market leader in Business Process Management (BPM) software and with the recent release of IBM Business Process Manager (IBPM) 8.0 they will likely retain that title. Too often, however, we have seen clients that have deployed this software but don’t use the full potential because they are confused as to what features the core product of the IBM BPM platform can do. After all, software vendors are often more interested in selling you more software than making sure you are using that software to it’s full potential. During this webinar we will cover the various BPM scenarios your organization can take to effectively use the features of the IBPM 8.0 product. We will show that with the core product there are actually three different ways to develop business processes and each approach might involve slightly different roles and tools. This webinar is intended for a wide audience: - Business Analysts will learn how to use the much improved business process modeling capabilities and how they can even deploy a process to production without developers being required to write a single line of code! - Integration Developers can learn how they will still be required to implement more advanced system integrations and how the platform can help improve their coordination with the business requirements. - System Administrators will learn how all of the various administrative tools of the product are used by different job roles and depending on the type of business process being developed - Organizations that currently use WebSphere Process Server 7.0 or prior will learn how the new environment has a lot of added functionality built right in and requires less custom development to leverage.

Although many applications have been developed that use web services in some way or another, not all of them have been developed recently. This means that the choices available when these web service applications were developed could have been very different than it is now. Since many clients are beginning to upgrade their Java application server environments, perhaps even after skipping 1-2 versions of the server, it would be good to be familiar with all of the choices available now with modern web service environments and the changes that have been introduced. In this webinar we will survey the various choices for implementing modern web services and the clients of these services. Besides introducing JAX-WS, a simplified way to do SOAP web services, we will also cover the newest style of REST web services and how to use the JAX-RS specification to develop these services. A comparison between SOAP and REST web services and when to use each will be important information also. We will also provide a brief review of some of the various advanced WS-* SOAP service specifications that can address specific integration issues since these have seen much wider support and adoption as more environments are upgraded. So attend this webinar if you want to know the current range of choices available to you and how to apply the best technologies to implement application requirements.

With the release of WebSphere 8.5 this summer, there is another new version of WebSphere to learn what is new and how it impacts your WebSphere environments. Since many clients were just beginning the process to migrate to WebSphere 8.0, released only a year ago, we’ve found that many are simply altering these plans to migrate to 8.5. This means that many may be migrating to 8.5 earlier in the release cycle when there is not as much information like RedBooks available so information about this latest version is at a premium. In this webinar we will cover some of the advanced clustering and provisioning features introduced in 8.5 that make it particularly interesting for those with large WebSphere environments. We will also briefly mention major changes introduced in 7.0 and 8.0 since all of these may be "new" features to those who are migrating.

The classic CMMI-style approach to gauging and managing maturity isn't viable for modern architecture practices. Process-centric maturity that presumes a lock-step progression and a binary view of maturity is unrealistic. Experience in maturing Enterprise and Business Architecture practices reveals that a more flexible, artifact-centric and technique-driven approach is more pragmatic. In this session, architecture expert Kyle Gabhart presents a rubric-style approach to promoting mature architecture practices.
